Information about High Definition on the Canon HV30

Not since the advent of colour television in the 1960's have we seen such a shift in technology. In comparison to standard definition, HDTV is similar to the average cinema wide-screen aspect ratio. However, the primary difference is quality - Images are brighter, clearer and more detailed. Pictures are made up from 1080 active lines rather than 480 active lines - put simply, it means that if you look at a standard PAL image you can see the lines that compose it, with HD it's not noticeable. More detail in less space.
The Canon HV30 uses the High Definition Video (HDV) recording format. It manages to compress the information recorded onto the same tapes manufactured for standard definition camcorders. An ideal upgrade from standard definition formats, while still remaining cost effective, HDV is used for entry-level video production as commonly as consumers.
While the audio capabilities of HDV are not the same quality as an audio CD, the compression using MPEG-1 Layer 2 technology means the quality is still outstanding, without being expensive. There are now a number of UK retailers stocking the Canon HV30 offering cheap prices
